How to Set up Google Authenicator in 10 easy steps
STEP 1: Download the “Google Authenticator” app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
STEP 2: Login into your Google account and click on the “Security” tab.
STEP 3: Click on the “2-Step Verification” field. Then click “Get Started” and you will be redirected to login to your Google account again.
STEP 4: Select your country and input your phone number then select whether you would like to recieve your confirmation code through a text message or from a phone call. Then input the google verification code and click “Next."
STEP 5: Scroll down until you see “Authenticator app” then click “Set up.” You will be asking which kind of device you will be using (Android or iPhone), select and then click “Next."
STEP 6: Open the google authenticator app on your mobil device and select “Scan barcode.” Point your phones camera at your computer screen to scan the barcode.
STEP 7: If you would like to create a safe back up for your Google Authenticator, incase you lose your phone, click “Can’t Scan It” then you private key will show.
STEP 8: Select “Manual entry” on the Google Authenticator app and then enter in the private key. Write down the key in a journal so that you have it as a backup to restore your Google Authenticator in case of an emergency.
STEP 9: The app on your mobile device will show a 6-digit code that regenerates every 30 seconds. Enter that code in the box that popped up on your webpage.
STEP 10: Congrats! You have now set up Google Authenticator for you gmail account.
NOTE: Varying websites operate google authenticator a little differently than Gmail. For example, to get the Coinbase authenticator secret key you have to click on the QR code.
The steps to get the Coinbase authenticator secret key are as follows: Login into Coinbase, go to Settings, Security, then go to Authenticator and click “Select.” Click on the barcode and your secret key will be copied to your clipboard.
